Book Covers

One of my favorite parts of new books is seeing and absorbing the cover. Lately, authors have some of the most beautiful book covers.  I thought I would write some likes and dislikes about what I like on a book.    

I don’t like seeing the face of the main character on the front of the book.  Although, there are certain situations that seeing the main character is a plus. 

 If the book is part of a series I like to come to my own conclusion of what they look like.  If the book is a standalone novel, I don’t mind seeing the face as it is a quicker read and right away I will see what they look like. What I love about Deeanne Gist's novels is that you see part of their face.  

I like the historical novel covers the best.  They are always in some pretty dress.  One of my absolute favorite book covers is Karen Witemeyer’s “A Tailor-Made Bride.” I bought this one in the store just because of the cover.  I’m so glad I ended up loving the story.  This book actually goes against my first dislike as it is a standalone novel but it is such a pretty cover she can get away with it.

I dislike series covers if they don’t flow. A good example of this is Karen Kingsbury’s Bailey Flanigan series.  

The first two books are similar but the last two don’t seem to fit.  But the books didn’t flow so it I guess it works for the series.

There are some older novels that don’t have the fancy covers and there are some dramatic differences between the old covers and new covers.

 

A good example of this is Lori Wick’s “The Californians. 

The ones I have were being sold at our library’s book sale, so there is a lot of wear and tear in them.  When I went online there is a dramatic improvement on the covers.  The Californians

I love wearing dresses and skirts. 

I wore a sun dress on Saturday, a purple flowery skirt on Monday, a black skirt on Tuesday and a brown skirt today.  I might need some more skirts.  :) 

Sweet pea lotion from Bath and Body works is my favorite. 

My favorite perfume is white musk. 

I changed my outfit three times yesterday, just because I didn’t like anything.

I’m growing out my bangs. It feels so different.

I need to find another pair of cute comfy shoes to wear with dresses and skirts. 

Little curl

I am certainly not good at blogging every week. I seem to be very sporadic. I have been very busy at the library. I was able to get some extra hours last week. :)  

Monday morning I woke up with this thought that I have not thought in a long time. It was “I don’t want to go to school.” What?! Where did that come from? I didn’t have to go to work until the afternoon and the library is nothing like school.  That did get me thinking though. I have been out of high school for five years this June.

 Now, I know five years is nothing but the time has flown by.  I graduated, didn’t take a summer and started taking classes at the college two weeks after high school.  I kept going right up until I received my associate’s degree. Then, I was lucky enough to find the library job, where I have been working for almost two years.

I was telling a coworker that I have been trying to let my bangs grow and there is a little curl right in the middle of my forehead that messes with keeping my bangs straight.  She smiled and told me a little poem that I just had to share. 

There was a little girl

Heart Attack

My last blog post was 10 days ago.  I thought it was about time I started working on writing a new post.  We’ll see what I can come up with to talk about.  I have to listen to some kind of music when I write and I am listening to Landon Austin tonight. The one I am listening to today is Payphone.  If you have never heard the song you should definitely listen to it. 

This week at the library I was able to go back to my regular hours.  I am definitely excited to have two days off in a row again, and working four days. 

The Kentucky Derby was today. I picked out my favorite horse and jockey.  My favorite didn’t win. The winner was I’ll have Another.  The jockey was Mario Gutierrez. I watched the race on YouTube when I got home and it was a close race. My grandma and grandpa were big fans of the Kentucky Derby, and they really enjoyed watching it.  

Today at the library I accidentally scared a 68 year old man. The gentleman was looking at the books and I had an answer to a question for him, so I walked up to him quietly and in a normal way. I said something “Sir.” He turned and looked at me and literally jumped and yelled really loud “you scared me.” He had a cane and the cane lifted in the air. He also scared me.  I went back to the circulation desk and told my co-worker “Did you see that?” He was smiling and laughing and said “It looked like you gave him a hard attack!” I don’t think I gave him a hard attack, but that's the life in a library. :)

I Love

My family; who love me unconditionally.

I love that God is always there for me. 

That I have a job even if it is only a part time.

That I have a job in a library, I never would have guessed I would be working in a library. 

When washing dishes, if you get the water hot enough they self-dry.

I love fairy tales but I know they are not realistic.

How my sister turns on the lights when I get home so I am not walking in the dark.

I love how many new friends I have made through Facebook.

I love finding new books by new authors.

I love One Direction's “What makes you Beautiful”

I love the people who come in the library and recommend books to read.

I love that there is a hummingbird feeder right outside our dining room window. 

I love taking pictures, especially of hummingbirds.

I love how on every birthday I have the same birthday menu. 

I love the feeling of putting your feet in the sand at the coast. 

I love grocery shopping, especially organizing the cart. 

I love the smell of lemons and limes.

I love riding my bike at state parks with my family.

I love sunrises and sunsets.

I love blogging.

I love the blooming Wisteria outside. If only you could smell it. 

I love how well the lemon try seems to be growing. 

I love the “Everything” by Lifehouse skit.

I love that Sherlock on Masterpiece starts in 10 days.

Something Different

I thought I would try a different type of blog post today and see what kind of response it gets.  I had a long day at work yesterday and I will also have another long day today.  I was thinking of writing some highlights of my day. 

•           I had an hour lunch, so I decided to walk to the park and enjoy the sun. I have worked at the library a year and a half and never walked to the park. It seemed safe enough; I didn't get kidnapped since I am writing this. 
•            On the way back I seen my boss’s boss jogging.  That was a little weird. 

•          It is unusual to eat lunch by yourself. I like being around people and talking to them. 
•            I saw a few cute guys in the library. I didn't flirt. Today.

•           I picked up a movie called “The Hammer.” I thought it might be one my dad might like. 
•          When I got home I watched a few video clips of the second season of Sherlock.  I can’t wait for that to start. 
•      I  have been really enjoying song cover by Chad Sugg of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe.  

And then I saw Chad had a cover of Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye that I can't stop listening to.  It was a fairly quiet day, we’ll see how today goes.  I hope everyone is having a good day.

Mind Wanderings

Today is one of my days off so I thought I would blog.  This weekend the weather is supposed to be in the 70’s. We will finally have some nice warm weather.  Today, on the other hand, it has been cold and rainy and just altogether not nice. 

Earlier this week I was looking at Facebook when I realized that I keep using a senior picture as my profile picture so I decided I needed to take some pictures to stop using the senior picture.

I had decided on wearing a pretty blue skirt to work that day so I asked mom if we could take some pictures. I am planning on growing out my bangs, so we'll see how long it lasts before it gets annoying.  

I could easily find something wrong with every one of them but I tried very hard to keep an open mind about them, and then I was reading an article on boundless.org I Feel Invisible where I seen this quote that really resonated with me.

In Psalms 139:16 NIV 1984 "your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
I put a lot of these verses on the notes feature of my kindle when I feel like I need to change my attitude.

In 2 Peter 1:5-7 NIV 1984 "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

The 2012 summer Olympics start in 99 days in London. I am so excited for them.  The top three sports I am looking forward to are swimming, diving and gymnastics.
